How to support our skin as we age
To understand how to support your skin as you age, it’s first important to understand that different areas of your skin require different types of skincare based on their individual needs. For example, there are several factors that differentiate the skin around the eyes to the rest of the face, including that it is much thinner, has fewer oil-producing glands, experiences frequent creasing from facial expressions, and visibly reflects our lived experiences such as lack of sleep or allergies. To best support the skin around the eyes, it's important to choose an eye crème that is tailored to these unique needs.
In contrast, the skin on the rest of your face has an abundance of oil-producing glands and therefore a greater ability to reduce moisture loss across the skin’s surface. When choosing skincare, using scientifically proven formulations that have been verified to support the underlying skin structure, boost collagen and elastin production, strengthen the skin barrier, increase hydration and help minimise and prevent hyperpigmentation, will aid in minimising the impacts of ageing. Cleansing and exfoliation are also crucial practices for preventing and reducing skin ageing as they help remove dead skin cells and impurities from the skin that can contribute to the degradation of collagen and elastin.
Skincare ingredients to support healthy ageing
Hyaluronic acid
Including different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, including Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolysed sodium hyaluronate, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, as well as Saccharide Isomerate, helps to dramatically boost skin hydration.
Niacinamide, Vitamin C and Liquorice root extract
These ingredients are powerful for brightening the skin and reducing and preventing hyperpigmentation including sunspots and scaring. Niacinamide also strengthens the skin’s barrier.
Bakuchiol
Also known as nature’s vitamin A alternative, Bakuchiol is a potent antioxidant that stimulates an increase in cellular renewal while soothing the skin.
Human Tripeptide-1
This specialised derivative of the cell’s own repair signal is an incredible ingredient for boosting collagen production and stimulating the skin’s natural repair functions.
Phytolipids
Phytolipids aid in fortifying the skin’s barrier and promoting hydration by protecting the skin against external aggressors and transepidermal water loss.
AHAs, BHAs and gentle physical exfoliators
A combination of naturally derived chemical and physical exfoliants are essential for drawing out, loosening and buffing away dead skin cells and impurities.
